The tea: why your hairstylist REALLY wants you to rebook

Our hairstylists invite you to indulge in a luxurious haircare experience at BLNDE Beauty Bar and Revamp Salon Company in Saskatoon

Hey there, fabulous! Picture this: you strut out of the salon feeling like a million bucks. But as time passes, you start to notice something off – your hair seems lackluster and harder to style. Life gets in the way, and instead of calling to book your next appointment, you get caught up in the hustle and bustle. Then one morning, you wake up and realize you can't ignore it any longer – no matter what you do, you're just not feeling your hair. So, you pick up the phone to book, only to find out your stylist is booked solid for the next two weeks. Frustrating? Trust us, GF, we've been there!

Proactive is the name of the game when it comes to slaying your hair game. Instead of playing chicken with your appointment schedule, why not lock in your next visit before you even leave the salon? Trust us, your hair (and your wallet) will thank you for it. Plus, who doesn't love strutting past the fully booked sign with a smug grin knowing your spot is secured? You go, Glen Coco!

There are some major reasons why sticking to a haircare schedule is crucial, but one of our top motivations is to save you money in the long run – and hey, why not look fabulous while doing it? Let's get real: stretching out your haircolor appointments to four months might seem like a money-saver, but truth be told, your hair is at its prime for only 6-10 weeks. After that, it's a struggle. Sure, you'll still look amazing initially, but by month three, your color will have washed out, leaving you with brassiness reminiscent of a sun-faded door. So, while you might shine for half the time, you'll spend the rest battling dry, fried looking locks. Let's not play hair roulette, darling!

So pour some a glass of giggle water, get cozy and lets unpack some tips to help you figure out what amount of time is right for you and how to avoid getting brassy, breakage and save some cash while doing it!

Regular trims mean breakage prevention!

Let's talk trims, honey! We get it – life gets busy, and sometimes those split ends sneak up on you like an unwanted ex. But here's the tea: neglecting regular trims is like skipping leg day at the gym – it may seem harmless at first, but eventually, things start to sag (we're talking hair, not biceps).

But is getting your ends trimmed really important or does your hairdresser love to watch you squirm when they mention the word trim to those long haired babes? According to a recent survey, approximately 62% of women with long hair admit to feeling anxious or hesitant about cutting their hair, fearing they may regret the decision or struggle to achieve the desired style afterward. So the real tea is that split ends can actually hinder hair growth because when the hair shaft splits, it weakens the strand from the bottom up. This weakened structure makes the hair more prone to breakage, which can lead to stunted growth and prevent the hair from reaching its full length potential. Additionally, split ends can travel up the hair shaft, causing further damage and ultimately resulting in the need for more frequent trims to maintain healthy hair.

We get it - this is scary for some but don't be a trimophobic – embrace the scissors and say "yes" to regular trims like the hair goddess you are! Whether it's a quick snip or a full-blown salon session, keeping those split ends at bay is key to maintaining a mane worthy of envy. We often refer to a split end removal as a "dusting" so we can prevent triggering our babes who get nervous about feeling short but want to keep things healthy. So, channel your inner hair guru and schedule that trim – your strands will thank you for it, darling!

Booked and Busy

Ok we played out the booked and busy scenario up above, but when you finally decide to call for an appointment, your stylist is fully booked. Cue the panic! Hairstylists are in the business of demand, and our goal is to give you customized schedules so you know exactly when the perfect time is to come back! We do this for several reasons but postponing your appointment by weeks can lead to split ends, root regrowth, and overall hair havoc. The longer you leave your hair unattended, the more extensive the touch-up will be, ultimately hiking up your salon expenses. It's like leaving your hair in a state of limbo – not cute, darling!

So, how exactly does this affect your wallet? Well, let's talk haircolor. Here at our salon, we utilize a fantastic tool called Salon Scale. Fun fact: this cutting-edge technology was actually invented right here in Saskatoon! The beauty of Salon Scale lies in its precision – it measures your haircolor usage down to the last drop, ensuring that you only pay for what was actually used. Gone are the days of salons relying on "average" amounts of color, which often led to inflated prices. We believe in transparency and fairness, which is why we're all about paying for exactly what you need. So if you are not a guest of ours, make sure to inquire as to whether your salon is using this technology or a parts and labour pricing method or you may be getting charged for color you didn't use.

Now, here's where it gets interesting. If you're diligent about scheduling your color appointments every 10-12 weeks, you'll have less growth to touch up – meaning less color needs to be mixed, resulting in lower costs. On the flip side, if you wait longer between appointments, not only will you require more color to be mixed, but your colorist may also need to employ more extensive techniques to bring your hair back to its former glory. So, by staying on top of your color maintenance, you'll likely only need a quick refresh or express service, rather than a full-blown overhaul. It's like opting for the a la carte menu instead of the full meal deal – your hair (and your wallet) will thank you for it!

Peak Season Panic

We've all experienced the dread of peak season panic – whether it's summer weddings, holiday festivities, or prom season, snagging a last-minute appointment can feel like a mission impossible. But fear not, for we have a VIP ticket to hair heaven with your name on it! We offer the ability to request an appointment after hours or on stat holidays (depending on stylist availability) so that if you did fail to plan you still have options. But just like waiting to book that plane ticket last minute this comes with prime pricing as well. So while this is a great option, planning ahead is the ultimate power move in the game of glam. By securing your spot in advance, you not only guarantee your preferred stylist but also breeze through peak season like a boss. So, ditch the procrastination and start scheduling your way to hair perfection!

Here's our guide so you can plan accordingly to peak demand:

  • Saturdays & Evenings: these are the first to go! If this is your preferred time we recommend booking 3-4 appointments ahead so you don't end up missing out!

  • Holiday Rush: November through New Years: we recommend booking right through the new year no later than September as we have some guests who will snag these appointments up to a year in advance.

  • Back-to-School Season: September: not only does this mean back to school rush but with the season transition we begin doing many fall looks and transformation services.

  • Pre-Holiday Hair Slays: February and March: we have a lot of guests who love to travel which means lots of pictures! We do a lot of pre and post vacay services so get our guests ready AND fix up their sun faded locks,

  • Wedding Season: June to September, with pre-wedding glam sessions begin in May

So there you have it! Setting up your next appointment before leaving the salon isn't just a suggestion – it's a game-changer for your haircare routine. By establishing a consistent schedule, you not only maintain the health and vibrancy of your hair but also save time and money in the long run. Say goodbye to the stress of last-minute bookings and the disappointment of missed opportunities for your preferred time slots. Plus, with a set schedule, you can indulge in the luxury of regular self-care without the hassle of squeezing in last-minute appointments.
